Assalamu'alaikom,
Apparently there are some people amongst us who enjoyed taking credit for what are not theirs in the first place.
They will copy-paste material without even giving reference. They will put the opinions of others as if they are the one who are giving the opinion, but when there are questions, they do not even understand the discussion. In this manner, they wanted to appear clever, but actually they are takabur (arrogant).
Takabur is even worser disease than nafs (desire), as this caused Syaithan to think he is better, and then disobey the command of ALLAH.
If we refer to the way of transmission of hadiths, the hadith will also mention who said what, and who heard from whom. By having proper records of the person transmitting the hadith, the scholars will be able to decide if there are person who are un-reliable and can caused errors/mistake/lies into the hadith.
So we must apply the same to information which are not from us.
To understand what are the views of the famous ancient scholars, supported by Quran and hadiths, please read on:
To conclude, plagarism and intellectual theft has no place in either [Western] academic world or even the Islamic world !!
wassalaam
